Salt of the Earth: a person of great goodness

We want you to have a memorable and hugely enjoyable experience, from the moment you walk through the door until you sit back in the luxurious comfort of our lounge to enjoy coffee after your meal, so we have designed and decorated the space with relaxation and informality in mind; put together menus packed with flavoursome food and selected staff who take pride in what they do and want your visit to Salt of the Earth to be the best that it can be.

"Great food and great service. Will recommend it to everyone. Lovely atmosphere. Good choice for children"

Your Usual Table?

We're not just here for special occasions and celebrations - we aim to make every visit special and we'd like you to visit often!

Drop in for morning coffee and browse the menu for lunch - fish and chips maybe, or coq au vin?

Hard morning shopping or off to the match on Saturday afternoon? Perhaps soup and a sandwich - croque monsieur or steak frites, leaving room for pudding of course - maybe rhubarb creme brulee or strawberry shortcake.

A meal before the cinema or treating the kids (and you!) to tea? Try the melon platter and orange syrup followed by grilled salmon or our ribeye steak with thick cut chips. The children have their very own menu, including traditional favourites like cheesy garlic bread and homemade beef burger, salad and fries or more adventurous choices like the edible veggie bowl or herb crusted chicken fillets with two of their five-a-day - green beans and sunblush tomatoes, all served with a glass of juice. If they have any room left, (and there is always room for dessert!) they can add a pudding for just a pound and what a pudding it is - raspberry shortcake, warm chocolate brownie, strawberry and pineapple sundae or, of course, a GIANT scoop of ice cream.

Evening out with friends? Our dinner menu has something to tempt every palate: soup, (we are Scottish, after all!), asparagus and sunblush tomatoes with mozzarella or seared woodpigeon, followed by sea bass or saddle of lamb, belly of pork or goats cheese and cherry tomato tart finishing with chocolate fondant and malted barley ice cream, tart tatin or baked peach with basil sorbet.
"Compliments to the chef on an all-round excellent meal. Good wine list complemented the menu. Great relaxing atmosphere and friendly experienced staff led to a fine evening! Will definitely recommend to all of our friend. "

Our inspiration is Southern French and Scottish and we source all our staple ingredients from organic suppliers, growers, producers and farms in Scotland and the North West of England. ALL of our ingredients come from suppliers whom we know and trust.
